Then you know the one on Waterlooplein for second hand stuff (and to buy cheap bikes). After all, they’re the most convenient to remember. Especially since they are open everyday but Sundays. That’s easy to remember, right?

However, maybe you do not know the Sunday Market in Westerpark yet. And let me tell you, the atmosphere is way different from other markets in Amsterdam.

Why? Since it is not your typical stand for bike locks, followed by a stand full of leggings, followed by a stand of touristic stoner tee-shirts (Hello Albert Cuypmarkt and Noordermarkt!) Usually, Sunday Market occurs only once a month in Westergasfabriek. For that reason, it has remained a very local place, a bit off the radar, but that is really worth getting to know.

On that day, expect live soul music from 12.30 to 14.30, a more diverse pop-soul-Chrismassy set list from 15 to 16pm, then a Rythm and Blues band until the end of the market.

But that is not all! Expect a wine-tasting (of alcoholic-free wines (weird, right?)), an atelier to create a Christmas wreath, magic tricks… So, forget about the busy Kerstmarkt on Rembrandtplein. For your guests this weekend, the Funky Sunday Market in Westerpark is the best tip in town!

Just another market?

Instead, you will find some artworks, trendy ideas for gifts (and not some cheap souvenir magnets). But also some delicious things to eat while looking around (I personally need to check if the great De Vrouw Met de Baard soulfood food truck still comes there). On top of that, there is always live bands coming, and some traditional Dutch things that can really seduce our dear guests who have never had poffertjes!

2. A Great Vibe

Additionally, if you live here and think about going, you may also want to share some love: The Food Bank will be collecting new toys to give to kids who don’t get anything for Sinterklaas and Christmas!

Last but not least, if it rains that’s not a deal-breaker: a big part of the market will be in the Gashouder building.
